Founded in 2010, Akahmai is a startup company in the surfing industry, retailer of surf wear and future manufacturer of board sport-related equipment. The name "Akahmai" comes from the early Polynesian noun Akeakamai which means “to desire wisdom" or "one who seeks knowledge"(such as a philosopher or scientist).  It is also known as Akamai the Hawaiian verb for smart, intelligent, or clever. Akahmai is simply the phonetic spelling, also known as Hawaiian pidgin.
